Achieving the requirements of the European standards for burglar resistance is never easy.
However, the latest test data from Germany shows how Roto door locks and handles have helped a customer to do it.
Roto Frank has recently tested a full-size door (1110mm x 2200mm) made from Trocal PVC-Aluminium and fitted with a Roto DoorSafe C500 multipoint lock, Roto strikers and handle.
The procedure has been carried out to RC3 (Resistance Class 3) of the standard EN 1627-1630:2011 for burglary resistance – and the door has passed the test.
The DoorSafe C500 is cylinder operated. This style of lock, on which the key is turned to engage all the locking points, is becoming increasingly popular in the UK, because it can be used on doors that don't have a lift-lever handle. This can include modern doors with a fixed pull bar, or period style doors with a central knob.
Under this test, the door has resisted the most severe of the documented procedures. It involves the installation having to withstand a three-minute manual attack by a tester equipped with four wedges and a 750mm crowbar.
All German test centres are now overseen by DAkkS, which since 2010 has been the single national accreditation body for manufacturers in Germany.
The Roto Frank AG test centre in Leinfelden, near Stuttgart, is one of the largest in Europe and is fully accredited by DAkkS for carrying out certified tests on door and window products.
