Robertson, the Infrastructure, Support Services and Construction Group have been awarded a contract to further modernise the provision of inpatient psychiatric care at Leverndale Hospital in Glasgow.
On behalf of NHS Greater, Glasgow and Clyde, Robertson will build an Adult Acute Admissions Unit, replacing the existing facility which is currently provided in a Victorian building on the Southern General Campus.
The new two storey unit will provide treatment for patients with severe mental illness and will provide 48 single room accommodation with en-suites and good therapeutic space.
The design is a modern development which seeks to reduce stigma and also to provide treatment rooms, office space for staff and environmental space, including external gardens and a car park.
The facility, which is scheduled for completion in August 2013, will be built to the highest environmental standards, targeting BREEAM Excellence. A gas fired micro combined heat and power system, as well as electrically powered air source will help make the building environmentally friendly.
Materials for the development including brick cladding, timber frames and quality stonework have been carefully chosen to represent a 21st Century modern health facility.
Regional Managing Director for Robertson, Martin Smith attended a sod cutting ceremony this week with Chairman of NHSGGC Andrew Robertson and Head of Mental Health Calum MacLeod.

The project has been procured through Framework Scotland with RD Health appointed as Principle Supply Chain Partner and the construction being carried out by Robertson Central.
