RigiSystems Ziplok 400 standing seam profile has been used to create a contemporary look to Light Hall Schools’ new sixth form extension at Solihull in the West Midlands.
In all, around 2,500 sq m of Ziplok were used in both straight and tapered format, complete with RigiSystems 20/100/1000 steel liner, flashings and fall arrest system.
Finish on all the Ziplok is RigiSystems MicroMatt weathered finish, which replicates the appearance of a roof after it has been installed for a number of years and the natural weathering process has taken place. Newly installed mill finish or stucco embossed aluminium can, in certain circumstances, cause problems with reflected sunlight creating glare. MicroMatt artificially ‘ages’ the profiles before installation, completely overcoming any problems associated with reflection.
The artificially aged surface changes to a naturally aged surface over a period of four to eight years. After this period, the behaviour of the roof is exactly the same as the original aluminium profiles, with no effect on performance or recyclability.
Ziplok is increasingly being used on buildings within the education sector, where the system really comes into its own in meeting the requirements of this particular marketplace in terms of aesthetics, cost-effectiveness, ease of construction, lifespan and environmental considerations.
