The UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) has announced a series of seven UK Regional Meetings this autumn.
Taking place throughout October and November and back by popular demand, the seminars put asbestos training and safety firmly back on the agenda.
Trialled earlier this year, the programme of two hour long events proved so successful that thanks to member demand the nationwide seminars are back. UKATA CEO Terry Barker will be on the road again, updating members on the latest initiatives from the Association, while listening to members’ views and opinions and answering any questions they may have.
“It is a pleasure to be undertaking another round of regional meetings,” said UKATA CEO Terry Barker. “They have proved so popular with members that they are already becoming a regular part of our activities calendar. We hoped they would be an excellent way for members to meet and network with each other and the association and that is one of the secrets of their success.”
Meetings will take place in Scotland, the North East, North, the Midlands, the South West and North and South London. The first meeting takes place in Darlington on Thursday 22 October, while the final meeting in Kent on 7 November includes compliance training from 1.30pm ‘til 4pm.
The meetings are part of UKATA’s continuing mission to promote asbestos safety, highlighting the danger still posed by the killer substance. UKATA’s mission is made difficult by the mistaken view that asbestos related diseases are a thing of the past. In reality over 4,500 people a year in Britain still die as a result of diseases caused by exposure to asbestos. Asbestos can be disposed of quite safely yet it remains a job for trained professionals. Diseases caused by asbestos have no cure.
“Some have already confirmed their attendance but as numbers are limited, members really need to complete and return invitations to avoid disappointment,” added Terry. “I am looking forward to meeting as many people as possible and ensuring UKATA is doing everything in its power to support members. It seems repeated prosecutions are not enough to get the message across that asbestos removal is not a job for amateurs. An estimated 70% of buildings may contain asbestos, so appropriate training remains essential on the dangers posed by this killer substance.”
UKATA is a leading authority in asbestos training in the UK, a privileged position that has only been achieved by hard work, dedication and a focus on Quality and Standards that is second to none. From a standing start, UKATA now has over 150 fee paying members with many more membership applications pending and forthcoming new legislation likely to mean the demand for Training and Consultancy services offered by members will increase further.
UKATA is always keen to talk to prospective members who are 100% committed to the highest professional standards.
