‘Quiet’ Ecodan recognised again by Noise Abatement Society

Mitsubishi Electric’s domestic range of Ecodan air source heat pumps has again received the official backing of the Noise Abatement Society (NAS) in the annual awarding of its official ‘Quiet Mark’ of approval.

The renewable heating product is currently the only air source heat pump on the Quiet Mark listing and will be exhibited as part of the NAS’s special ‘Quiet House’ at the Ideal Home Exhibition (15 March – 1 April at London’s Earls Court).  The Quiet Mark Approval stand (Stand 1H84) will showcase household items that have been officially recognised for their efforts to reduce noise in and around the home.

“Thousands of households across the country have already discovered the benefits of using air source heat pumps for their home’s heating, but not all systems are the same and not all are as quiet as Ecodan,” explains John Kellett, General Manager of Mitsubishi Electric’s heating division.

Air source heat pumps are now covered by Permitted Development under new guidance which came into effect at the end of 2011. However, in order for the installation to be allowed under these planning regulations, it must comply with the MCS020 Planning Standard and this includes strict guidelines on noise levels.

The Quiet Mark, which is validated by the Association of Noise Consultants and awarded to manufacturers of the quietest products currently available, aims to offer a one-stop-shop for consumers. Quiet Mark products feature in the on-line directory at www.quietmark.com.

Ecodan is suitable for a wide range of existing and new-built properties and harvests renewable energy from the outdoor air – even in sub-zero temperatures, to reliably provide a home’s heating and hot water, all year round.

Multi award-winning Ecodan heat pump boilers can reduce fuel bills and emissions and help new houses to achieve Levels 3 and 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Mitsubishi Electric has designed the Ecodan range to satisfy the heating demands of UK homes with a choice of three models (5kW; 8.5kW; 14kW).  The range is suitable for the vast majority of houses, once they have been brought up to modern building regulation standards of insulation.

Thousands of households from Shetland and the Scottish Highlands to the Isle of Wight are already benefiting from the renewable heating and hot water provided by Ecodan.  The system is being used effectively in houses throughout the country from tower blocks in Glasgow to executive homes in the South of England, from modern flats and apartments to 200-year-old cottages.
