BRE, the UK’s leading building research body, has published an overview of its SMARTWaste Plan site waste management tool in a new report, “Saving money, resources and carbon through SMARTWaste”.
The report has been published to coincide with the relaunch of the SMARTWaste website, and includes information on the smartER feature for improved environmental performance.
“Since SMARTWaste Plan was introduced in 2008, data on over 8000 completed construction projects have been collected, and this information has been used to produce a range of benchmarks and performance indicators,” said Margaret Blackwell, one of the authors of the report.
The report provides detailed performance indicators of waste arisings for both new build and refurbishment projects. These performance indicators will be of interest to clients, contractors and planners, and information is provided on how the data can be used. The report also provides case studies showing how the tool can be used to provide an overall view of all company projects.
“SMARTWaste Plan is easy to use, meets the requirements of the Site Waste Management Plans Regulations 2008, provides benchmarks to drive improvements in performance and cost savings, and can be tailored to the requirements of each company,” said co-author Katherine Adams.
