Portview fits out Ben Sherman’s newest store

Ben Sherman’s newest store on Commercial Street, London, has been fitted out by Portview.

Located between Spitalfields and Brick Lane, the shop is Ben Sherman’s first in East London.

Portview was awarded the project following a competitive tender and delivered the new 2,691 sq ft store in six weeks.

The team was responsible for implementing the design which had been created by Brinkworth and was based on a new concept that references recognisable British environments such as pubs and tube stations to creatively showcase the Ben Sherman collection. The project was managed by Leckenby Associates.

Portview stripped back the existing building to its shell and fitted new flooring, walls and ceilings across two floors as well as in the basement. Portview also installed the new shop front which incorporates the original store’s fascia sign from circa 1930, and that was uncovered during the strip out.

In addition, a vast range of bespoke display units were fitted, including the ‘Shirt Bar’, a wall display and under-lit mid-floor counter which forms the centrepiece of the outlet as well as a glass floor to allow light into the basement.

Simon Campbell, managing director of Portview said: “This project presented a number of challenges – the store is located on a red route in the heart of London that had to be kept clear at all times, so the work had to be carefully managed particularly in terms of deliveries. It is also surrounded by other businesses and residential properties so any potential disruption and noise had to be kept to a minimum.

“Working in partnership with Leckenby Associates, Brinkworth and Ben Sherman, we have helped to deliver a shop with a traditional exterior and clean, modern interior that directly reflects and complements Ben Sherman’s new product ranges.”
