Nottingham council homes get the go ahead

Plans for 31 brand new council homes have been approved by Nottingham City Council’s Planning Committee.

The homes on Cranwell Road in Strelley will be built on the site currently occupied by the crosswall flats.

Demolition of the flats, which is being carried out by Nottingham company, Total Reclaims, will begin in June.

Construction of the new properties is expected to begin in September 2014.

The new homes will include 20 two bedroom family homes and 11 two bedroom bungalows. They will form part of the Building a Better Nottingham scheme, which will see nearly 400 council homes built across the city over the next four years.

Cllr Alex Ball, Executive Assistant with responsibility for housing and regeneration at Nottingham City Council, said: “I’m delighted to hear planning permission has been granted for the next site in our citywide council house building programme.

“The new properties will be sustainable, energy efficient, secure and modern, while meeting two very specific housing needs in the city.

“Our Building a Better Nottingham housing programme is helping to transform communities, creating homes and places where people want to live. Such a range of developments are providing a number of employment and apprenticeship opportunities for local people, as well as supporting local businesses wherever possible.”

Currently the Building a Better Nottingham scheme has completed small developments in Bestwood, Top Valley, Aspley and Sneinton, as well as starting work on its flagship scheme of 142 homes in Lenton and 52 properties in Radford.

Planning permission has been granted for phase one of the Cranwell Road site, with further plans to be submitted for phase two in the Spring.
