A new artificial pitch constructed by Charles Lawrence Surfaces in conjunction with Surfacing Standards and one of the Football Foundation’s Framework Partners, Lano Sports was officially opened by Hugh Robertson MP, the Minster for Sport and Olympics at Abbey School, Faversham.
The 3G artificial grass pitch, which was funded by the Football Foundation, will enable the school to develop its football activities and three FA Charter Standard partner clubs have been provided with a quality facility to assist with their training and match programmes.
The school secured a grant of £390,000 from the Football Foundation and Swale charities Bensted and Queenborough Fisheries Trust also provided funds.
It has been forecast that over 2,200 people will use the pitch on a weekly basis. Head teacher Catrin Woodend said the pitch was practically fully booked with teams and five and seven a-side-leagues.
