A bespoke soffit, fascia and coping system designed by Marley Alutec has made a striking contribution to the impressive new combined services centre at Parc Noyadd, in Llandrindod Wells, Wales.
Housing Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Dyfed Powys Police and Her Majesty’s Court and Tribunal Service, the new building features a sedum roof and larch timber clad walls.
With multiple performance attributes demanded by the living roof, Lawray Architects specified that the chosen soffit, fascia and coping system must be lightweight and durable, as well as complementing the building’s modern aesthetic appearance. Roofing contractors, M A Hartley were contracted to install the products and were quick to recommend Alutec. After examining some sample products, Lawray Architects were happy to confirm the specification.
“We originally detailed a pressed aluminium lightweight soffit, fascia and coping system,” explains Chris Evans, Associate at Lawray Architects. “The composite construction of Alutec’s system makes it light but very robust, which is exactly what we wanted. Another advantage was the rigidity of the system and the lengths in which it was available, as this meant fewer joints were required.
“We are very happy with the quality of the products and with Marley Alutec’s technical expertise, as the team worked closely with us to design the completely bespoke installation details. We will definitely be using Alutec’s products again in the future and have already specified them in one of our latest projects.”
Working to the client’s specific brief, Marley Alutec designed a system comprising individually designed soffit, fascia and coping, with bespoke Flush-fit 102mm Ø downpipes – all in a custom shade of soft grey.
Manufactured to meet the highest standards of durability and reliability, Marley Alutec’s soffit, fascia and coping systems offer a lightweight alternative to PVC or sheet aluminium solutions. Comprising a recycled polyethylene core, with a composite aluminium outer layer and high performance PVDF paint, the system is extremely durable, with a life expectancy of 50 years or more.
Thanks to the composite structure, the Marley Alutec soffit, fascia and coping system is extremely strong – yet it is only 4mm thick and in most cases does not require a backing board. This simplifies the installation process and reduces costs. The result at Parc Noyadd is a streamlined finish that complements the contemporary design of the building.
Richard Davies, Head of Estates at Parc Noyadd, comments: “We are really happy with the system and have been quite impressed by both the speed of installation and the look that it adds to the building. It gives a really sleek finishing touch to the front elevation and certainly enhances the overall feel, as far as I am concerned.”
