A new phase of homes has started at the Lightmoor Urban Village in Telford.
Known as The Croppings, it will involve Keepmoat Homes building 105 two, three and four bedroom homes. The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has invested £1.6m to kickstart the building works, in partnership with Bournville Village Trust (BVT) and Keepmoat.
The Croppings is the fourth stage of Lightmoor, which has been dubbed ‘the new Bournville for the 21stCentury’ and is being developed on HCA land through a joint venture with BVT.
Nick Bird, Area Manager at the HCA, said: “These new homes will provide more quality housing for the people of Telford, and the joint approach from all three parties is helping to get make the vision for Lightmoor a reality. Despite being a very popular development, even Lightmoor hasn’t been untouched by the economic downturn, so we’ve worked hard to source a new funding route to help get this phase underway.”
The HCA funded The Croppings through its Public Land Initiative, which was new funding from the Government to speed up housebuilding on HCA land.
Lightmoor village will eventually have 800 homes, a new village centre with shops, play area and community spaces all owned and managed by BVT, as well as a new primary school and childcare nursery for Telford and Wrekin Council.
