Mitsubishi Electric has announced the launch of new members of the Lossnay family with the VL-100(E)U5-E single room fresh air units which offer effective, energy efficient mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) in an easy to install system.
The compact wall-mounted units are designed to answer the pressing need for fresh air in today’s modern homes, now being built to stricter Building Regulations which call for highly insulated buildings.
These ‘airtight’ premises often need effective mechanical ventilation to combat the build-up of stale air. The Lossnay system helps achieve this whilst recovering up to 79% of the heat energy from the outgoing air to reduce the amount of energy needed to bring the fresh, incoming air up to room temperature.
Unlike many other ventilation systems on the market, Lossnay recovers both latent heat and sensible heat which not only offers a more controllable internal temperature but also makes the indoor climate less dry and more comfortable whilst reducing heat losses – leading to savings in both energy and running costs.
The units can be easily fitted to any external wall and need only a supply and extract feed and electrical connection to offer efficient and effective single room ventilation.
“These days, it is simply not cost effective to just open a window, as you are throwing out the heated or cooled indoor air and replacing it with fresh incoming air that then needs additional energy to bring it to the required indoor temperature,” explains Jason Tinsley, Mitsubishi Electric’s ventilation expert.
For many situations, a whole house ventilation system is not a cost effective option so Mitsubishi Electric has designed the VL-100(E)U5-E to answer the need for a simple to install solution.
“We have spent years refining the paper core of our Lossnay units and have packaged it in these new units to provide a straightforward answer to single room ventilation,” adds Tinsley.
Poor indoor air quality can be attributed to many problems inside a home – such as excess humidity causing dampness, rot and mould, whilst pollutants are known to be a major cause of damaging health issues such as asthma and eczema. The paper core at the heart of the Lossnay system is central to its ability to capture both latent and sensible heat, which means the new, incoming air is less static and dry.
As the demand for improved energy efficiency results in increasingly airtight buildings, natural ventilation proves less effective and drives the need for mechanical ventilation. With increasing legislation, the challenge for designers, installers and occupiers of any building is to find ventilation that’s both effective and energy efficient.
“This is where these Lossnay units can provide a straightforward and cost effective solution bringing fresh air into any building whilst simultaneously extracting stale air and, most importantly, recovering valuable heat energy for maximum efficiency,” ends Tinsley.
