The Mineral Wool Insulation Manufacturer’s Association has welcomed calls from the Committee on Climate Change for the Government to commit to stringent insulation targets.
The progress report shows a 3% increase in emissions during 2010, and although overall emissions were within the limits of the first carbon budget, this can be attributed to the 9% reduction in emissions during 2009.
However, the committee has advised government to sign up to the stringent target of insulating all cavity walls and lofts by 2015. John Sinfield, Chairman of MIMA said: “Such a target places heavy responsibility on the government but they have the full support of mineral wool manufacturers in their efforts to achieve these targets.”
The report also highlighted a significant drop in number of professional installations of loft and cavity wall insulation during 2010. “As the association representing mineral wool manufacturers we would actively encourage the energy companies involved with the Government’s Green Deal to increase their efforts to fund cavity wall and loft insulation.
“Although this is not one of the most visible means of reducing carbon emissions from dwellings, it remains one of the most effective and cavity wall insulation also has one of the lowest paybacks of all the methods listed under the Green Deal.”
