The Stormdry Gauge is a simple and economical tool to help test masonry and diagnose rain penetration problems in walls.
It is sometimes difficult to identify small defects in masonry that allow the passage of water by visual inspection alone. Defects that admit damp into a wall can include tiny cracks, porous masonry and permeable mortar. Using a Stormdry Gauge on a small test area allows monitoring water absorption over time. Testing several areas permits a picture of the wall to be built up, showing where rain penetration is most likely to be occurring.
The Stormdry Gauge is affixed to the masonry surface using a mastic adhesive, which creates a watertight seal. The tube is then filled with water to the zero mark and the water penetration into the wall measured at regular intervals.
Stormdry Gauges are available individually at £9.50 each or as part of a masonry test kit. The kit includes four Stormdry Gauges, mastic adhesive, and a water bottle supplied in a foam-lined hard plastic carry case priced at £69.00.
