The search for the UK’s best hotel suite is over, with Hotelympia giving its inaugural Design Award to The Royal Suite, Mandarin Oriental, London.
The opulent yet quintessentially English suite was chosen from three outstanding finalists, The Royal Suite, Jumeirah Carlton Tower, London and Pavilion Number One, Lime Wood Hotel, New Forest, Hampshire, being the other two. Each was chosen from dozens of entries, including a host of renowned household names.
Jan Wilson from interior designers RPW was there to receive the award, presented by founder and Principal of KLC School of Design, Jenny Gibbs, on Hotelympia’s Stage, in front of a packed audience.
Jenny also helped to judge the three finalists, the glittering panel was made up of a mix of respected operators and designers including, television personality and hotelier, Alex Polizzi, her mother Olga – Director of Design for the Rocco Forte Collection, and former CEO of celebrated hotel chains; Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, Robert Cook.
Commenting on the accolade, Editor of GS Magazine and Head Judge, Stirling Johnstone said: “Congratulations to all three finalists. In each case our judges recognised that the designers had enhanced the space they had inherited, adding quality, beauty and high end products without impacting on functionality. Good design is innate to each of our judges, they were unanimous that the Mandarin Oriental was to be our eventual winner; put simply, the level of aesthetic beauty and quality allowed the space to speak for itself.”
