For any luxurious property, the choice of doorset is not only made depending on the performance required, but invariably, it also has to meet a particular period or style aesthetic.
This was certainly the case for a number of exclusives homes in the St Georges Hill and Aston Road area in London, where almost 100 luxury solid timber panelled doorsets were specified from the renowned UK based manufacturer, Longden Doors.
Longden’s beautifully hand crafted doors have been gracing the finest buildings for over a hundred years, with many historic properties relying on Longden’s expertise to maintain and preserve their heritage. It is these same traditional skills that are used to create Longden’s range of bespoke panelled doorsets for luxury homes - achieving the perfect balance between style, function and performance.
All Longden timber doors and doorsets are manufactured individually to order, giving total design freedom and complete individuality to each exclusive home. This was a key advantage to the property owners in St Georges Hill and Astons Road, who had demanding briefs in terms of acoustic, fire and security performance, as well as the quality and overall look of the doorsets.
Noise can be a major nuisance and achieving reasonable levels of acoustic control between different parts of the home can be a challenge. For one client in St Georges Hill, the brief required effective acoustic doorsets to be supplied to the cinema area of the house, and so Longden’s luxury hardwood panelled doorsets were an ideal solution offering up to 37RwdB sound reduction – ensuring that the end user will enjoy quiet living in all areas of the property.
Fire rated doorsets are a legal requirement for homes and renovations, Building Regulations concentrate on protecting occupants, but there is also protection of the building itself to consider. Longden’s range of solid timber panelled doorsets meet Approved Document Part B for Fire Safety, achieving up to 60 minutes fire resistance with smoke control, where needed, that is fully certified and supported by the BWF-CERTFIRE scheme.
Security is key for any home and it was of paramount importance for these projects in particular, which is why Longden’s Churchill doorset was specified. Adding a sense of quality and elegance to contemporary or traditional surroundings, the Churchill doorset provides the perfect blend of protection and security. The durable panelled doorset incorporates reinforced steel in each of the panels offering a level of defence, whilst still retaining the desired aesthetics to complement the grandest of environments.
Depending upon the style and period of the property, Longden is able to supply a design to suit, as well as providing wholly unique options. For these exclusive homes a combination of raised & fielded Chippendale and Copeland panels and Sheraton flat panels were specified depending upon the individual style requirements.
For those properties looking to retain the traditional features, the Chippendale raised and fielded door offers a more customary look, as the panels are tongued into grooves within framings - 32mm thick for non-rated doors. Meanwhile, the Sheraton flat panel offered one of the owners in St Georges Hill the perfect combination of classic and contemporary styling, with high quality traditional construction as requested. Finally, the Copeland panel reflects a more contemporary touch, perfectly suited to the modern home.
Saqib Sindhu at Longden Doors comments: “The doorsets that were supplied to these projects have created an exquisite first impression of the room they lead into, setting the tone of the interior inside, as well as providing high performance characteristics to suit each individual home. With all solid timber doors and doorsets manufactured individually to order, our experts work closely with the customer to establish the best approach to each project.
“In addition, all of Longden’s doorsets are available in FSC accredited hardwoods. We only supply the most sustainable building material available to the British building industry today, meaning specifiers and clients have made sure the most renewable timber sources have been specified.”
