Luxonic expands production facility by 30 per cent

Responding to the ever increasing demand for LED lighting, Luxonic is to expand its production facilities in Basingstoke over the next six months.

More than 30% extra space is being created by putting in a mezzanine assembly area at its Priestley Road plant.  This is where LED luminaires will be assembled and tested, and also where components stocks will be held at ‘point of use’.

The move coincides with virtually every Luxonic luminaire being re-designed around LED technology from high bays to ceiling and wall fittings.

Luxonic prides itself in having full manufacturing facilities to produce the luminaires that it designs and develops.  The manufacturing facility incorporates auto punching machines for the pressing of steel body parts which are automatically loaded and unloaded; automatic folding machines for the forming of metalwork; and a painting plant with full powder coat electrostatic paint facilities.

Commenting on the factory expansion, Alan Ayres, Luxonic’s production director said: “The changes which we are putting into place will give us a massive efficiency gain and more capacity to meet customer demand both for LED and fluorescent luminaires.”

Luxonic employs over 100 people of which half are engaged in production. Now in its 28th year, and with annual sales of £12 million, Luxonic ranks as one of the largest British manufacturers of light fittings and also has a manufacturing operation in Dubai.

The company has very green credentials, considering the environment and sustainability in every way from design concepts and manufacturing techniques to energy efficiency of its products, delivery to customers and finally recycling of product at end of life.  It is an holistic approach, which leads to enormous carbon and energy savings.
