ISG has secured a £3.1 million project to construct a new Design & Technology teaching block at Llanishen High School in Cardiff, with the scheme awarded as part of a new regional public sector framework agreement.
The South East Wales Schools Capital Working Group (SEWSCAP) framework sees 10 local authorities collaborating over the next four years to deliver education projects across the region.
ISG’s successful appointment to this select list adds to the contractor’s prominent role on the influential Cardiff City Framework, under which ISG refurbished the sports hall at Llanishen High School earlier this year.
This latest scheme sees the construction of a new two-storey, steel frame Design & Technology building, which will provide additional modern teaching accommodation at the highly regarded school. ISG’s comprehensive works package includes the full fit out of the new facility, which incorporates food preparation classrooms on the first floor and carpentry workshops at ground floor level.
Sympathetically designed to complement the surrounding buildings, the teaching block incorporates facing brickwork and ribbon windows to its façade with an insulated metal cladding system forming the roof.
The new building will be linked into the adjoining science block, which will remain occupied throughout the duration of the project. The scheme is scheduled for completion ahead of the start of the new academic year in September 2013.
ISG’s John Rawlinson, managing director – South West, commented: “The framework procurement route champions collaboration and efficient working practices and is an ideal vehicle to deliver the ‘more for less’ expectations of the public sector.
"Our appointment to the SEWSCAP framework augments our existing credentials as a trusted construction partner, and our success here and across the Cardiff City Framework, recognises ISG’s capability to consistently deliver high quality solutions.”
