Specialist building envelope manufacturer and installer, CA Group, has announced that it has successfully installed its River-Therm® secret fix roofing solution on three data centres in Slough - in spite of the buildings being located within a three metre distance of each other. Martin Lowther, Operations Director for CA Group, explained that the contract, carried out on behalf of Yorkshire Sheeting and Insulation Services (YSIS), represented a real challenge which CA Group was quick to solve. He explained: “The close proximity of one 6,000m2data centre to the next ruled out traditional installation methods such as an eaves roll from the side of the building. Furthermore, the lack of space around the individual structures themselves made it extremely difficult to roll from the ground, as the sheets which needed to be lifted on to the roof were 65m in length.” CA Group worked with YSIS during the pre construction design stage discussing various possibilities and finally opting for a non-conventional approach. He explained: “We quickly realised that eaves rolling the sheets from the gable end at a 45 degree angle to the building would offer the quickest and most cost effective solution, even though our competitors said it could not be done. Our approach was agreed with YSIS and ultimately led to them securing the project from main contractor, Kier Construction.” CA Group worked exclusively with Tata Steel on the project to provide its Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® on the roof and Colorcoat Prisma® on the walls. Exclusively manufactured by Tata Steel, both pre-finished steel products have the unique Galvalloy® metallic coating optimised to provide maximum corrosion resistance and cut edge protection, providing a Confidex® Guarantee for up to 40 years. CA Group successfully completed the project, rolling more than 12,000m of River-Therm® sheets in just under two and a half days. Lowther concluded: “Our work with YSIS enabled us to solve the issue by tailoring our approach to meet their specifications and as a result of the success we have had with the project we have secured work on another three data centres.” River-Therm® is a fully walkable, non-fragile roof system which has been developed without the need for traditional fasteners which penetrate the roof from the outside to the inside of the building, causing leaks.
