21 February 2011 – Kingspan Group plc welcomes a High Court ruling today in which the Judge held that marketing roadshows and videos undertaken by Rockwool Limited were misleading and breached Kingspan’s trademarks, causing damage to its reputation. Rockwool’s claim that the fire tests were appropriate and accurately carried out was dismissed. The case related to a series of roadshows and videos conducted by Rockwool which purported to compare the fire performance of Kingspan and Rockwool products. The Judge will make an order as to any damages that Kingspan may be entitled to at a later date.
A spokesperson for Kingspan said: “The fire performance of construction products when incorporated into a building system is a very important consideration in the design of buildings. Kingspan's insulated panels and insulation boards achieve some of the most stringent UK regulatory fire performance requirements for life safety and property conservation when tested as in end use application. We are very pleased that the High Court has held that Rockwool’s marketing campaign was misleading.”
