Kebony AS, the ground-breaking Norwegian company offering a sustainable alternative to tropical hardwood, has been shortlisted in the Award for Technology category of the Sustain’ Magazine Awards 2013.
Kebony offers an alternative to tropical hardwood and toxic-treated wood that is sustainable, environmentally-friendly, non-toxic, easily-maintained, resistant to decay and aesthetic. It’s impressive durability and long lifespan in harsh climates makes Kebony suitable for a variety of purposes including roofing, decking, windows, furniture and flooring.
This new wood has been used by a number of world-leading architects, designers and developers through a variety of applications. The entry case study was KREOD - a new architecturally-striking sculpture which will form the centrepiece of the busy public space, Peninsula Square between the Emirates Air Line and The O2 Arena on Greenwich Peninsula. Using state-of-the-art parametric design tools and digital fabrication, KREOD brings together some of the most talented designers, engineers and innovative materials to challenge current thinking and showcase sustainable and forward-thinking building methods - notably Kebony.
Kebony has also been named as one of the top 50 fastest growing clean technology companies in the 2012 Cleantech Connect awards. This awards features pioneering companies at the forefront of environmental and sustainable innovation and those exhibiting the most exceptional potential.
The Sustain’ Magazine Awards celebrate standout achievements and successes in the field of Sustainability. The trophies will be presented at an awards ceremony on Tuesday 5 March at the Guoman Hotel overlooking the River Thames and Tower Bridge in London. Last year more than 300 people attended the event, which was hosted by one of most amusing award hosts in the country.
Steve Oxley, Editor of Sustain’ Magazine said: “Now in their fifth year, the Sustain’ Magazine awards 2013 has seen an extremely high-calibre of entrants demonstrating best practice in sustainability across the built environment spectrum. It is an amazing achievement for Kebony to be shortlisted in the face of such strong competition. We are thrilled to be able to host the awards ceremony that recognises the hard work and commitment of those companies and organisations achieving such high levels of excellence.”
Jan Terje Nielsen, Marketing Director at Kebony commented: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award and proud that we have been recognised for our achievements in sustainability.”
The sponsors of the awards are: Land Securities and Galliford Try Partnerships. The awards are organised by Sustain’ Magazine in association with Marshalls.
