The ambitious refurbishment of Rainford High Technology College in St. Helens has been given a helping hand thanks to a considered paint specification featuring products from Johnstone’s Ecological Solutions range and Ambrose Ellis Painting Contractors.
In order to meet the stringent requirements demanded by main contractor Interserve Construction, it was vital that the paint specification not only helped to contribute to the overall environmental performance of the newly refurbished buildings but also ensured a quick turnaround and a highly durable, low maintenance finish. With some 16 other trades working on site simultaneously and with the college remaining in use throughout, contractors had to carry out work with consideration for both other workers on site and staff and pupils at the school.
The specification of products from Johnstone’s Ecological Solutions range provided numerous benefits to the project and were specifically chosen for their suitability for use in the education sector thanks to many being low odour and having low VOC contents. In addition, the quick drying properties of Johnstone’s Aqua Gloss assisted Ambrose Ellis in the timely completion of the work, which saw the interior redecoration of the college’s East Block completed in just four months.
Mike Ambrose from Ambrose Ellis commented: “This was a challenging job for us, not least because we were undertaking our work alongside several other trades whist the college remained open to staff and students. We worked closely with Johnstone’s specification team to identify products that would enable us to complete our task quickly and effectively and thanks to the use of low-odour and quick-drying paints from the Ecological Solutions range this was done ahead of schedule.”
Stephen Bebington from main contractor Interserve Construction added: “Thanks to the endeavour and workmanship by Ambrose Ellis and the quality of the products supplied by Johnstone’s, the interior decoration will not only contribute to a reduction in the long-term maintenance of the new school building but will also help to create a great learning environment for both students and teachers alike.”
