Pennsylvannia Heights, a new eco-housing development to the Passivhaus Standard on the Isle of Portland, is being built using a wide range of materials from Jewson, the UK’s leading supplier of sustainable timber and building materials.
The builders’ merchant is supplying bricks, blocks, plasterboard and, crucially, Chain of Custody timber and sheet products.
The pioneering energy efficient development is being built by Lomand Homes on the Isle of Portland, a site of Special Scientific Interest. 72 homes are being built to certified Passivhaus standards, utilising exceptional high levels of insulation, low heating requirements and Bio-Mass systems fuelled by wood from local sustainable sources. Creating a healthy living environment was also important, and this is being achieved through reduced humidity within the homes and ventilation systems that offer significant benefits for asthma, hayfever and allergy sufferers.
Wherever possible, local suppliers and contractors were used to reduce the carbon footprint of each property. As such, after a long-standing relationship with Lomand Homes, the Jewson branch in Weymouth was selected to supply the widerange of heavyside materials required for the 72 properties.
“For an environmentally-friendly and eco-conscious development such as Pennsylvania Heights, it was absolutely vital to ensure that the timber and sheet materials were sustainably sourced and had full Chain of Custody certification. This is why we have opted to work with Jewson,” explained Mark Coleman, Director at Lomand Homes.
“We’ve worked with Jewson in the past and they don’t just go that extra mile to meet our requirements – they always go the extra 10 miles to ensure we get the materials we need and on time. The merchant has been an ideal partner for us on this landmark project.”
John Green, Branch Manager at Jewson Weymouth concluded: “The Pennsylvania Heights development is extremely impressive and our branch team has even been to site to see construction underway. We are absolutely delighted to be supplying such a landmark project with our range of Chain of Custody approved timber.”
Jewson offers customers an end-to end Chain of Custody audit trail across its entire branch network. Certification of timber supply is vital as developers increasingly demand that timber products used are from environmentally accountable sources.
