International Timber is ending 2010 on a positive note following a number of major project wins throughout the year including a £1-million contract to supply Cumuru hardwood cladding for Dalston Junction station in Hackney - an ambitious crossrail regeneration project designed to improve links with the capital.
Sales of cladding have been particularly buoyant with additional projects including Hanham Hall in Bristol, the first large scale housing development set to achieve level six of the Code for Sustainable Homes, and a development of one and two bedroom luxury apartments on the Great Western Dockyard, next to Brunel’s SS Great Britain.
More unusual project wins include the supply of Douglas fir for the production of traditional whisky vats for the renowned Glenlivet distillery in Scotland. In addition, the company is providing greenheart timber for a scheme to restore the coastal defence battery in Pembrokeshire to its former glory.
Managing director Tony Miles comments: “2010 has been a year of uncertainty for many, with the change of government and resulting spending cuts leading to a cautious approach across the construction industry. However, despite this, trading has remained strong and we have been involved in a wide range of developments across the private and public sectors.
“Our involvement with projects such as Hanham Hall and Dalston Junction clearly shows the appeal timber holds as a sustainable and durable building material. However, I believe our success is also down to the high level of expertise we have within the business, which means we are always on hand to give customers the best advice when it comes to timber specification. This knowledge, combined with our commitment to customer service, has enabled us to secure major contract wins and we look forward to continuing this success throughout 2011.”
