Insulslab SFRC, the super insulated and fully integrated foundation system, continues its string of award successes having achieved a shortlisting in the coveted Construction News Awards. For the first time ever, these prestigious awards have introduced a Product Innovation category, with Insulslab SFRC being one of only a handful of entrants that have made it to the final.
With the Product Innovation category judging entries against strict criteria, Insulslab SFRC clearly demonstrated the time and cost savings it can deliver on-site whilst simultaneously offering superior thermal performance. Against the backdrop of an economy where budgets are under continued pressure and developers must meet increasingly stringent sustainable targets, Insulslab SFRC has provided the construction industry with a cost effective yet high performing foundation technique.
Mark Gray, technical manager, Insulslab SFRC, comments: “The industry recognition that Insulslab SFRC has attracted is incredible. The feedback that we receive from specifiers, contractors and groundworkers is that the system is revolutionary when it comes to achieving sustainable standards and minimising site costs. However, being shortlisted in the Construction News Awards, after a number of other recent award successes, is a real testament to Insulslab’s proven credentials.”
Constructed of interlocking expanded polystyrene (EPS) pods with steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) poured on top, Insulslab SFRC minimises manual handling and facilitates installation efficiency. The innovative use of SFRC in foundation construction helps to reduce the overall volume of concrete and minimises the amount of traditional steel reinforcement required.
Integrating high levels of insulation into system design, with the EPS pods offering proven thermal performance, Insulslab SFRC achieves very low U-values, typically 0.10 – 0.12 12W/m2K depending on PA ratio. By delivering the foundation up to ground floor level Insulslab SFRC contributes towards Part L compliance and the Code for Sustainable Homes, providing superior insulation without the need to increase floor depth.
