Ibstock Kevington has been an instrumental driving force behind the launch of a new industry body set up to represent manufacturers of prefabricated components to the housebuilding industry.
The Construction Glassfibre Manufacturers Association (CGMA) has been jointly set up by the industry with encouragement of the National House-building Council (NHBC), both of which recognised the need for a single industry association to represent leading manufacturers of glassfibre chimneys, dormer windows and bay roofs, to ensure improved quality and professionalism across component suppliers to the housebuilding sector.
To ensure that the highest standards across the housebuilding industry are maintained, the CGMA has developed a rigourous testing and annual certification scheme, ensuring that products of accredited members meet the standards of quality expected by housebuilders and homeowners alike.
Iain Durrant, Operations Director at Ibstock-Kevington, and newly appointed Chairman of the CGMA, commented: “Due to their speed of construction, durability and consistent quality, the use of prefabricated building components has grown rapidly within the new housebuilding sector in recent years.
“It is therefore very reassuring that the component supply industry is taking the initiative and acting to ensure that the highest standards are maintained moving forward and the formation of the CGMA guarantees just that. The NHBC have been very supportive in this process, so much so that it is anticipated in the NHBC Technical Update for April there will be a recommendation that only CGMA or independently third-party tested chimney components should be used. This recommendation will become effective from August 1, 2012.”
The NHBC has been working with Ibstock Kevington over recent years to provide third-party assessments on chimneys.
