Hidden interlock makes Ashmore the desirable tile

Marley’s Ashmore interlocking tiles have been specified for a gated community of luxury apartments and duplexes on one of the most desirable roads in Royal Windsor, as sales of the product continue to grow.

Kebbell Homes chose the Ashmore tiles for 18 Bolton Avenue because they give the appearance of a traditional double lap plain tile but offer the cost and time saving benefits of an interlocking tile.

Michael Winn, commercial manager from Kebbell Homes, comments: “Windsor is known for its historic character, so it was important that Number 18 fitted into the traditional style of homes found on the leafy Bolton Avenue. We wanted to create impressive architecture with a classic and elegant facade echoing that of the town’s established buildings.

“This is a collection of truly aspirational homes, with most costing over £1 million each, so balancing luxury and cost effectiveness in the specification was very important. We chose the Marley Ashmore tiles because they look like a plain tile but are more economical and we have used them successfully on similar developments in the past.”

Sales of the Ashmore tile have been consistently growing for a number of years and Gavin White, marketing project manager at Marley, believes there are three main reasons for its popularity: “Many housebuilders and developers are looking for a premium finish at a lower cost and as well as the material savings, the Ashmore tile also offers significant cost savings on labour time. Secondly, the hidden interlock means it has significant speed of installation benefits with a fitting rate of 17.5 tiles per m2, compared to around 60 tiles per m2 on plain tiles. Finally, it can be used on pitches as low as 22.5 degrees, which means it offers greater design versatility.

“We are increasingly seeing Ashmore specified on high end developments. This may be because using the tile gives the premium appearance of a plain roof tile at a lower cost, allowing developers to maintain a high internal specification for kitchens, bathrooms and quality fittings and fixtures, which can be a big selling point in a competitive market.”

The Ashmore single lap interlocking double plain tile also offers impressive environmental credentials. Independent carbon certification, the ability to achieve an A+ rating in the BRE’s Green Guide to Specification and certification to the BES 6001 standard for Responsible Sourcing, means it can help to achieve extra credits under BREEAM and the Code for Sustainable Homes.
