At just 24 years old, Salcombe based interior designer, Henrietta Thorn, has taken the Devonshire leisure industry by storm and has been appointed head Interior Designer at Coast Group’s holiday development Gara Rock, after only 18 months in the industry.
Henrietta comments: “I was always interested in interior design but I have just been so fortunate that the right opportunities have come along over the last 12 months.
“The Coast Group directors popped into the hotel I was working in for a drink one day and asked one of the staff if they could speak with me. We had a chat and well, it all just went from there.”
Henrietta studied physiotherapy at university after being advised against pursuing an interior design career. However upon leaving university and completing a ski season abroad, Henrietta struggled to find employment as a physiotherapist and so resorted to a temporary administrative job at a local hotel.
Amazingly, after one week at the hotel, Henrietta was pitching her design ideas to management and she was asked to design all the guest rooms’ interiors.
Now having joined the Gara Rock team, Henrietta will be designing bespoke, elegant interiors, blending the best of contemporary design with natural materials and furnishings.
“I am so excited to be part of the Gara Rock development. It is a special place that I have visited for years whilst walking the South West Coast Path with my family. I really hope I can do the development justice and an interior that is cohesive with the surrounding coastal and natural environment''
Henrietta adds: “I am drawn to the New England and Nordic styles of interior design, which demonstrate a delicate balance of modern and traditional furnishings, neutral colours, natural fibres and most importantly, nurture a warm and homely atmosphere. The Gara Rock development will be the perfect opportunity for me to implement some of my personal style, as it will blend wonderfully with the rugged landscape outside."
Located on one of the most spectacular stretches of the South Devon coastline, Gara Rock is a truly isolated holiday haven of five cottages and 14 apartments. Upon completion, there will also be a boutique hotel with 18 bedrooms, a fabulous restaurant and an exclusive holistic spa.
The architecture has been designed in harmony with the breathtaking natural landscape that surrounds Gara Rock. Natural stone, attractive white render and grey slate roofing complement the awe inspiring views. The development’s signature building, the Rotunda, provides two new homes with unrivalled panoramic sea views from its prime position.
Chairman of Coast Group, Rob Dickson, says: “Gara Rock provides exceptional and unique holiday accommodation for those seeking a very special and secluded get-away. We are fortunate to have Henrietta on board and look forward to showcasing her talented designs.’’
Homes at Gara Rock start at £550,000 for a two bedroom apartment. Three bedroom cottages start at £650,000 and the three bedroom Rotunda penthouse suite is available at £1,200,000.
