Hanson is supplying its iconic London bricks to the final of the 2012 SkillBuild bricklaying competition at Preston College next week (September 12-14).
Finalists in the event, which is one of 10 disciplines in the annual contest, are tested on their ability to construct a complicated wall section from a set design and within a given time.
Hanson’s London bricks, manufactured in Whittlesey near Peterborough, have been used by bricklayers nationally for over 100 years and were chosen for the competition as they are light weight and easy to cut and lay.
SkillBuild is the UK’s biggest and longest running skills competition. It is run by CITB-Construction Skills and begins with a series of regional heats with the top scorers competing for the national title.
Hanson UK’s national marketing manager Paul Lacey said: “We are delighted to support this excellent event which highlights the opportunities that exist for vocational skills.
“It is vital for the UK’s construction industry that we nurture the talented young people who will build the high quality buildings of the future.”
