TRADA has signed up Clive Pople, Director of Willmott Dixon, to speak at its flagship conference In Touch with Timber during Timber Expo on 27th September 2011. In ‘Growing the commercial sector’, he joins Martin Young, Chief Architect of Tesco Stores Ltd, Martin Wood, Partner in Bryden Wood Architects, and Nick Milestone, Construction Director of B & K Structures.
As TRADA Membership & Marketing Manager Rupert Scott explained, ‘Timber as a structural material has, until relatively recently, been restricted mainly to the domestic market. But many companies are now providing a new breed of high tech structural timber sub-contracting. As a result, the commercial sector is very much ready for the taking.’
Martin Young will discuss Tesco’s plan for 27 new timber stores, as part of an on-going development of more sustainable supermarket store designs. Clive Pople will then share his company’s wide experience of using timber on commercial projects. Bryden Wood has been very successful at working with high profile clients - such as BAA and GlaxoSmithKline - requiring bespoke, off-site construction solutions to tight timescales.
Martin Wood will explore the possibilities, benefits and areas for improvement in using timber and wood-based panels. B&K Structures have completed nearly 100 projects in the commercial sector since they began to offer a combined timber and steel structural sub-contractor service in 2006, and Nick Milestone will focus on what skills have been transferable to timber from steel.
Timber Expo is aiming for 5,000 visitors from the UK and overseas and the new In Touch with Timber format will accommodate 1,000 delegates over the two days. Tickets start from £80.00.
