GOOD GREEN THINGS COME IN THREES ACCOYA WOOD receives new international ENVIRONMENTAL ACCOLADES

Accoya, the leading high technology wood from Accsys Technologies, has entered 2011 in style following the recent Green Product Award from Building Products Magazine in America, receipt of DUBOKeur environmental certification in the Netherlands and making the shortlist for the Sustain Awards Product of the Year category in the UK. Chiefly concerned with the environmental impact of a product and its sustainable attributes, these three exciting demonstrations of industry recognition add further credence to the sterling green qualities of Accoya wood.

Green Products Award, Building Products Magazine

Entrants in this annual contest by publisher Hanley Wood were selected based on their sustainability, innovation and overall value to residential construction professionals employing green building practices. The entries were then reviewed by a panel of judges including builders, remodelers and architects.

Jean Dimeo, editorial director for Building Products Magazine said: "The winners of the annual Green Product Awards stand out from the pack by not only contributing to an environmentally friendly, durable, or healthy home, but also by boasting innovative features, eye-catching aesthetics, or other valuable benefits to the contractor and the consumer".

DUBOKeur Certification, NIBE

This certification is awarded by the Netherlands Institute for Building Biology and Ecology (NIBE), a research institute for the environmental impact of building materials. NIBE aims to contribute to a healthy, safe, sustainable and ethical society by holistically assessing products under its People, Planet, and Profit paradigm and using a unique life cycle analysis model. The products are stringently assessed according to 17 environmental issues, which range from global warming to recycling and processing of waste, with a specific focus on the deterioration of eco systems.

Product of the Year, Sustain Awards, Sustain Magazine

The Sustain Awards from Sustain Magazine recognise development of new sustainable products, or different applications for existing environmentally-friendly goods, technology or materials, incremental process improvement, as well as innovation. Proven commercial viability and validation of performance are essential requirements, with sustainable sourcing, supply, design, manufacturing, production, logistics and delivery all desirable characteristics. Accsys Technologies is delighted to learn that Accoya wood has been shortlisted for the Product of the Year Award, perhaps the most prestigious of all the Sustain Awards categories.

A PRACTICAL AND SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION

Sourced from sustainable, fast-growing, FSC and PEFC approved forests, Accoya wood is a non-toxic, enhanced wood that already holds a multitude of environmental certifications, including the prestigious Gold standard Cradle to Cradle. Accoyawood is modified to the core through the acetylation process which gives it significant environmental advantages over slow-growing hardwoods and woods treated with toxic chemicals.

Holding class 1 durability and offering exception dimensional stability, Accoya is leading the way in sustainable building products and is frequently used for industrial and commercial developments such as heavy traffic bridges, new builds and refurbishment projects. Coatings can last longer and Accoya wood is guaranteed for 50 years above ground and 25 years in-ground and freshwater, making it ideal for external applications including windows, doors, cladding and decking and exterior furniture. The recently published results of a five-year field test conducted by Scion, formerly known as the New Zealand Forest Research Institute, concludes that Accoya wood is more durable than four of the most naturally durable species, including teak and cedar. With such strong and substantiated qualities, Accsys Technologies hope to see further awards for Accoya wood throughout 2011.

Accoya wood is available across the globe through a network of independent distributors. For more information about Accoya wood visit www.accoya.com.
