Carillion has appointed Prater, the UK's leading specialist external envelope provider for the new London Gatwick Airport, Pier 5 redevelopment scheme. Work on-site began in March 2012 and is estimated for completion in April 2014.
Prater’s package of works includes complete integrated structural steel solutions with all envelope requirements including Kalzip roofing; Trimo panels, stick curtain wall and louvres. The redevelopment involves the construction of a new departures corridor above the existing pier as well as the reconfiguration of served stands, with new aircraft access fixed link bridges and new node buildings to serve the newly configured stands.

"Construction work within the aviation sector requires a strong commitment to health and safety, delivery of a quality installation, technical competence as well as a high level of expertise operating in an airside environment.
