NIA supports advice from NLA on take-up of insulation

The National Insulation Association (NIA) supports the advice given by The National Landlords Association (NLA) urging landlords to utilise current green funding to improve energy efficiency of their properties. This advice comes following an online study which showed that just 51% of landlords have made energy saving improvements to their properties using these schemes.

The NIA advises that current grants and subsidies available under the Carbon Emission Reduction Target (CERT) will end 31st December 2012. Therefore, landlords should take advantage of these schemes without delay. Tenants living in adequately insulated properties will not only benefit from a more comfortable living environment but also save on their energy bills which is good news in the current economic climate.  By simply installing cavity wall and loft insulation, a saving of around £310* per year can be made. The savings are even greater for insulating solid walls and lofts, around £635 per year**.

Neil Marshall, Chief Executive of the NIA, commented: “Insulation is the single most effective method of saving money on domestic energy bills, with savings continuing year on year! Grants and subsidies can significantly reduce the cost of improving home energy efficiency via insulation of walls, lofts and draught proofing. For those who qualify, this can even be installed for FREE!”

By using an NIA member, landlords and tenants are not only employing a qualified installer who is bound by a strict Code of Professional Practice but also someone who can advise them on the range of support available and how to apply. What’s more, landlords also qualify for tax relief of up to £1500 for each property that has energy efficiency measures installed as well as an improved EPC rating.

To find out more, or to contact their local installer, householders should visit the NIA website on www.nationalinsulationassociation.org.uk or call 08451 636363
