The Leadbitter Group continues to play a major role in providing a range of affordable housing options to residents in Cardiff. Most recently, the Company has been awarded a contract to design and build 50 new homes at Caer Castell Place, Rumney, Cardiff.
The new development, Castle Heights, will include 41 houses and nine flats, built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 and constructed on a brownfield site within an existing residential area. Due for completion in late 2011, twenty of the homes are being built on behalf of Cardiff Community Housing Association (CCHA), while the remaining 30 will be marketed for sale by Leadbitter Homes—with a show home available in spring 2011.
Castle Heights is located within a mile of The Shires, another development that Leadbitter successfully completed in 2008. All 25 two and three bedroom units were sold by Leadbitter Homes within 12 months of completion.
In the Butetown area of Cardiff, Leadbitter is already on-site constructing another scheme on behalf of CCHA. Loudoun Square is a mixed-used development featuring 13 townhouses and 48 flats for mixed tenure, alongside 11 retail units, a Community Health Resource Centre and community facilities. The non-residential elements are designed to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ ratings, while the new homes are being built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, with some even achieving Level 5—a first in Cardiff.
In addition, 11 units will feature ground floor level access to support independent living for people with access needs, and six units will be designed for families with a dependant relative.
Russell Houghton, Regional Director of Leadbitter’s Western Housing Division, said: “Leadbitter is committed to making a difference in the community wherever we work, and it is gratifying to be able to provide housing of all types and tenures to meet the needs of the diverse people who make Cardiff their home.
“With CCHA, we are partnering with an organisation which shares our dedication to community engagement and environmental sustainability, and we look forward to continuing to drive those aspects forward at Loudoun Square and Castle Heights.”
Kevin Protheroe, Chief Executive of CCHA, added: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Leadbitter on these two schemes which will provide a range of much needed high-quality affordable homes for Cardiff.”
