The urgent need to create a reliable and effective roof insulation solution for a college rebuilding project provided Gradient Flat Roofing with the opportunity to demonstrate the many benefits of its single-layer, tapered flat roofing insulation.
The Campsmount School in Askern, South Yorkshire, suffered a devastating fire in 2009 which destroyed the majority of the site. Part of the subsequent rebuilding project involved the creation of a new 4000 sq. m. roof, for which a Gradient Power Deck F tapered insulation solution was specified.
“The need to undertake internal works over the winter months meant that creating the roof was a priority which had to be completed as early as possible in the project,” comments Tony Lawther, Operations Director for main contractor, BriggsAmasco Ltd. “Gradient’s single layered solution enabled us to do exactly that, while still achieving the required insulation performance and also creating the various falls needed to ensure reliable drainage.”
“Our single-layer tapered system is ideal for this type of project,” said Gradient’s National Field Sales Manager, Richard Milward. “Each system is designed as a bespoke solution for the project in question and the various elements required to create the correct insulation performance and drainage falls are bonded together off-site, under factory conditions. They can then be installed far more rapidly and efficiently than using a traditional multi-layer system which has to be built up on site, layer-by-layer. This allows the roof to be completed far more quickly, which was a significant benefit for this particular project.”
“Gradient’s level of service and support certainly matched the quality of their product,” added Tony Lawther of BriggsAmasco. “The versatility of the Gradient system allowed us to make changes to the insulation solution as the job progressed, and Gradient was always available to provide technical advice and guidance when we needed it.”
Gradient’s Power Deck F insulation is a closed-cell rigid polyisocyanurate foam core board, faced on both sides with a perforated, mineral-coated glass-fibre tissue. When used in a single-layer tapered solution it can provide time and cost savings, and is equally well suited for use on either new-build or refurbishment project.
