FOAMGLAS PROVIDES STRENGTH FOR WIDOWS

FOAMGLAS Floorboard F in 60mm from Pittsburgh Corning was recently specified to insulate the floors of the new Scottish Widows office in the Exchange Place development, Edinburgh. The cellular glass insulation was selected due to the insulation's high compressive strength, which eliminated the need for additional reinforced cement layers.

The Scottish Widows office is part of a new development that consists of three, five and siix storey office buildings around a new public piazza that links to the Millennium Way between Edinburgh Quay and the city centre.

FOAMGLAS® cellular glass insulation was specified for the floors of the new offices as the material fully complies with all building regulations, it can be installed above or below a structural concrete floor and will remain totally stable dimensionally throughout the lifetime of the building, avoiding sagging in the floor construction.

Paul Jones, Managing Director of Pittsburgh Corning Ltd, comments:

“The installation of FOAMGLASÒ within floor constructions is fast becoming popular due to the number of benefits it provides. Aside from its compressive strength, the product will not deteriorate with age and its thermal properties will remain constant. A high performing insulation block, the core is totally non-combustible and cannot contribute to a fire or give off toxic fumes.”

Manufactured from 68% recycled glass and completely inert to moisture and fire FOAMGLASÒ cellular glass insulation is an ideal solution - with the designed insulation values remaining constant, from day one until the end of the building's life.
