Chris Grigg to become BPF president

Chris Grigg, chief executive of British Land, the country’s second largest property company, is to become president of the British Property Federation in 2012.

He will become the BPF’s junior vice president at the trade body’s AGM on 6 July, with former Hammerson chief executive John Richards taking over from Hermes' Rupert Clarke as president, and Great Portland Estate chief executive Toby Courtauld succeeding Richards as senior vice president.

Liz Peace, chief executive of the British Property Federation, said:

“I am delighted Chris will be joining the BPF. He brings with him enormous experience in the banking sector and is the Chief Executive of one of the largest REITS in Europe. Our continued success in representing the industry is down to the involvement and commitment of our members and Chris’ guidance will benefit us tremendously.”

Chris Grigg said: “Our industry has seen a period of extraordinary volatility in the 18 months I have been at British Land. A sustainable recovery is certainly in sight but a key catalyst will be the actions of the new government. It is critical that we help to inform policy decisions and ensure growth and enterprise are encouraged. The BPF has played a central role in working with ministers and their officials, and I am excited to be joining at a time when both the organisation and its work are well regarded both by the industry and by politicians.

“It is vital that we continue to get behind the BPF’s work and support the single, strong voice that has allowed us to be effective in working with Government, occupiers and other lobby groups. I am honoured to have been asked to be president of the BPF and very much look forward to strengthening that voice working alongside John Richards and Toby Courtauld.”
