Award Winning Show Garden Donated to Hospice

An award winning show garden that won a Silver Flora Medal at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Show last summer has been relocated and installed at the LOROS Hospice in Leicestershire.

The Garden of Light and Reflection, which was sponsored by Brett Landscaping , was successfully dismantled during the week following the show in July last year and the relocation project completed this month. Brett Landscaping donated sandstone paving, decorative Scottish beach pebbles and as well as technical advice and installation support.

The garden has been designed to heighten the awareness of the therapeutic benefits of gardens and features raised beds and paved areas to allow easy access for wheelchair users. It provides a relaxing area for contemplation and relaxation for patients and their families.

Brett Landscaping’s sponsorship and donation was part of the company’s Love Your Landscape Initiative which donates materials to community causes throughout the UK. Andrew Gill of Brett Landscaping said “The team have worked really hard to produce a beautiful garden. By sensitively introducing hard landscaping areas we have made it practical and easy for patients and family to use without detracting from the therapeutic benefits gained from the plants and overall look of the garden. We hope the garden will continue to serve the hospice and the local community for many years to come.”

Pauline Pitts of Lyndon Landscapes who project managed the LOROS garden said “It is widely acknowledged that time spent looking at or within a beautiful garden can help a patient come to terms with an incurable illness and can provide a restful retreat for visitors and staff. It stimulates all the senses with vibrant colours in plants and materials, scented and tactile flowers and foliage, the sound of water and rustling foliage and the provision of edible fruits.“
