Even top executives need to find time to keep fit - but Simon Hipgrave, managing director of Britain’s leading garage door maker Garador, has gone an extra mile.
In fact, he has gone nearly 220 extra miles. This is the distance Simon covered riding from Lands End to the Garador head office in Yeovil as part of the Tour de Jewson Charity event at the start of September.
The 2014 Jewson cycling relay marathon from Land’s End to John O’Groats is a major fund raising event for MacMillan Cancer Support.
Simon said this wasn’t the first year Garador had supported this worthwhile event, but it was the furthest by far he has covered on this annual ride.
“In the past Garador has provided refreshments and facilities for cyclists to use as a refueling stop on route, and Garador colleagues have taken part in the Tour de Jewson the last five years,” he said. “Last couple of years I had joined in on a number of shorter legs".
“But this year, I decided this charity was worth going the extra miles. Being joined at Exeter by our finance manager Alan Bacon and production operative Rob Green meant we had a good Garador presence for the two legs back to Garador in Yeovil. I have to say, however, it was a case of keeping our heads down and pedalling on at times, so we didn’t have time to look at any garage doors along the way!”
But Simon says it has all worth the effort.
“The target for the complete Tour de Jewson event is set at just over £52,000 and with the addition of the money raised by Garador they are well on their way to raising this amount for MacMillan Cancer Support,” he said.
“There is still time to donate through the Tour de Jewson Just Giving page,” he added.
