Railway stations across the UK are seeing the benefits of specially designed and manufactured roof access hatches and walkways from M.R. Site Services.
In the recent re-development of Edinburgh’s two main stations, M.R. Site Services has provided a total of 42 Quantum access hatches, bespoke manufactured in aluminium.
At Waverley station the specification was for 525mm square access hatches and 30 of these were made and delivered in just two weeks.
At Haymarket station, another bespoke design called for 12 access hatches with special extending handrails when the hatches are opened.
Thameslink station in London also benefits from nine, 1 metre square access hatches installed complete with inner and outer soakers.
In a similar way, M.R. Site Services’ bespoke manufacturing expertise has been called into action for London’s Paddington station and Derby railway station to provide special versions of its Quantum aluminium walkway systems. At Derby, 70 metres of 600mm wide walkway has been supplied and installed, and at Paddington, 110 metres of the same width walkway has been supplied and fitted in this case to serve as a maintenance walkway to the roof mounted solar PV system.
Quantum access hatches are specially designed and developed for all types of flat roof, particularly aluminium and steel standing seam roofs. The hatches can come complete with standard soakers so that weathering can be achieved without additional flashing and as the weight of the hatch is transferred through the soaker to the building construction it does not interfere with the thermal movement of the roof. Made from 2mm aluminium, the access hatches are lightweight, fully insulated, fitted with gas- assisted struts and are available as a supply and fit package. There are various types of Quantum access hatches available based on the Eco, Standard and Dome hatches.
The lightweight aluminium Quantum walkway system from M.R. Site Services is a competitively priced and attractive low profile system providing roof access for maintenance purposes for any standing seam roof. It is designed for fast, trouble free installation with a clever non-penetrative fixing system which eliminates roof leaks.
It is also self-aligning so reducing on-site installation time. There are T sections, 90° and 45° corner sections to permit changes in direction of the walkway system which features non-slip treads made from extruded closed section 6082-T6 aluminium. Handrails and toe boards are also available for the system if required for additional security.
As well as bespoke manufacturing, M.R. Site Services offers on-site surveys and use in-house CAD systems to produce working designs for any project.
