Prima Systems (SE) Ltd has just completed an impressive installation of foiled grey tilt and turn windows in the REHAU S706 system in a £10m flagship mixed use development in Maidstone, Kent.
More than 400 windows, manufactured by specialist trade and commercial fabricator CWG Choices, have been installed in two new housing schemes built as part of a prestigious new development which also houses Kent County Council’s History and Library Centre and includes county archives and a public library.
The commercial areas of the building had aluminium windows and curtain walling fitted, coated in a grey exterior finish, but the contractors Warings and its parent company Bouygues Development chose a more cost effective and energy efficient PVC-U solution for the extra care housing scheme for older people and affordable homes built alongside.
The windows were specified in REHAU’s Anthracite Grey foil for PVC-U which has a virtually smooth finish which is almost indistinguishable from the aluminium.
It allows a coherent overall look to be achieved for the whole project whilst offering the residents in the two housing schemes all the thermal efficiencies associated with PVC-U.
In line with the requirements of Housing 21 and West Kent Housing Association who are managing the extra care scheme and affordable housing, the windows are BS7950 Secured by Design approved and WER B rated.
The tilt and turn windows were produced by CWG Choices and installed by Dover based Prima Systems (SE) in a tight timescale to meet the demands on site.
