Fleetwood Architectural Aluminium, one of the UK’s leading specialists in the design, manufacture and installation of aluminium systems, has achieved Secured by Design Accreditation for the range of windows and doors it produces. The company, which is based in Slough, is one of the first in the country to become accredited under the highly regarded, police-approved scheme.
The accreditation is particularly important because the Secured by Design (SbD) principle was recently extended to apply not simply to the original design of a security system or product, but also to its manufacturing process. This puts the onus firmly on the fabricator who requires design skills, a high degree of engineering expertise and manufacturing consistency to achieve the required SbD standard of excellence.
Fleetwood's SbD audit was undertaken by BM TRADA. Having first made a sample window which was sent for testing at BM TRADA, the latter undertook a thorough QA audit and health and safety inspection at Fleetwood's impressive new factory in Slough. The information from the audit was sent to SbD who subsequently visited the premises themselves for a final assessment. Having already achieved Achilles, Beyond Zero, CHAS and Constructionline accreditation, Fleetwood passed this last test with flying colours.
Fleetwood install SbD systems and products from major national systems companies such as Schueco, SAPA and Reynaers; historically, the demand for SbD products has come from the domestic housing sector, but increasing levels of interest from the commercial sector are indicative of a new and expanding market.
