Iron technology leader Saint-Gobain PAM, part of materials company Saint-Gobain, is supplying its acclaimed ENSIGN-S cast iron above ground drainage solutions for what is set to be the world’s largest medical complex.
The HAMAD Medical City in Doha, Qatar, has been split into several sub-projects. It is the best example that Qatar is investing in the future of its healthcare, as HAMAD Medical City will be the largest medical complex in the world.
Saint-Gobain PAM supplied 4km of pipework, ranging from sizes DN70 to DN150, with the product chosen for its optimal fire safety and acoustic qualities. Cast iron is non-combustible, minimising the risk of a fire spreading through the pipework system.
Pipework acoustics are also an important factor, especially in the construction of a hospital where patient comfort and the need for a quiet environment is a key priority. The ENSIGN-Soil pipes supported by brackets come equipped with noise insulation dampeners, which are fitted to the brackets to minimise vibrations and noise from materials passing through it.

This system itself provides simple installation and fitting while outperforming rival materials in other key areas too. Its production using cast iron provides the perfect solution when considering fire resistance, which we know is of paramount importance to our customer following the Villagio Mall fire in Qatar in 2012.”
