Contemporary furniture designers and craftsmen, design duo Young & Norgate, are incorporating Formica High Pressure Laminate (HPL) in limited edition furniture pieces.
Crafting each piece by hand using time-honoured techniques, Young & Norgate’s designs offer customers complete versatility in terms of size, colour and material while creating furniture that will stand the test of time both in quality and design aesthetic.
Peaceful Blue, Glacier, Energy, Lead and Fossil from the Formica Colors range have been used to great effect on the Zimmer sideboard and Animate bedside table. Selected to offer a wide variety of on-trend shades, the range provides an inspirational choice of subtle, architecturally inspired neutrals, atmospheric hues and accent colours.
“As we work at the bespoke end of the market, we are dictated by what the customer desires, so to have a full colour palette to work with is a major advantage,” explains the design duo. “Even though we have picked a handful of complementary colours for our furniture, if a customer wants to match a particular material or wall colour then it is easily done.”
In combination with other striking materials such as timber, Formica HPL compliments the carcase beautifully, providing a subtle detail to finish off the piece. “We tend to use HPL as a colour complement to our work”, says David Young, “it becomes very much part of the design.”
The Zimmer sideboard was also redesigned exclusively for The Living Room exhibition in London, where Young & Norgate showcased new door fronts clad with DecoMetal for the first time. Created using metal foils to produce highly desirable and tactile laminate surfaces which exude quality, the DecoMetal by Formica Group combines the texture, colour and character of real metals with the hard wearing, lightweight and flexible properties of laminate.
For furniture making, Formica laminate is an ideal choice. Durable, easy to clean, and resistant to impact, heat and scratches, it keeps its looks and requires minimal maintenance. In depth product development and advanced technology enables Formica Group to create exclusive products that inspire and excite the market. With over 98 years of innovation and manufacturing experience, Formica Group has developed an unrivalled expertise, which ensures quality, reliability and products that are fit for purpose.
Young & Norgate source and use the highest quality materials available – from FSC certified timbers handpicked from local suppliers, to premium leathers from Scotland, and ironmongery from New York. The result is a piece of furniture that will only get better with time. It is no coincidence that they have chosen to work with Formica laminate as all the European manufacturing sites and distribution centres of Formica Group have achieved the internationally-recognised Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody (COC) certification from leading accreditation body, BM TRADA.
Working closely with architects, designers and specifiers, Formica Group is ideally placed to offer innovative new products and decors which respond to market needs and complement current design trends.
