For the construction of 625 lodges and leisure buildings at the new £250 million Center Parcs in Bedfordshire, one of the largest leisure projects in the UK, dry mortar manufacturer CPI EuroMix is set to ensure a constant supply of mortar for the project thanks to its innovative silo mixing station.
Center Parcs Woburn Forest is the leisure operator’s fifth UK village and the 365 acre site will feature leisure facilities and a 75 bedroom hotel built by Bowmer and Kirkland and lodge accommodation built by contractor ISG.
With the lodges built using off-site manufactured timber frames through a 59-week fast-track scheme, CPI EuroMix were chosen to supply mortar for the footings and stonework panels for each lodge as well as for the stonework for the Subtropical Swimming Paradise and shops.
Working with specialist brickwork contractor Marlborough Brickwork on the lodges, CPI EuroMix supplied mortar in a natural colour to meet the client’s exacting specification and to complement the natural forest surroundings.
For the efficient production and delivery of 600 tonnes of dry mortar, CPI EuroMix is providing the mortar for the stonework in six of its innovative silo mixing stations. In addition the company is providing 25kg bags of natural mortar for the footings.
"We had to overcome a number of challenges on the site which necessitated having timed deliveries, all of which had to be booked in 48 hours in advance," commented Ben Kirk of CPI Mortars.
"The fact there is no water or permanent electric supply in this woodland setting mean the silos have to be run off bowsers and generators."
For the leisure facilities which include a Subtropical Swimming Paradise, CPI is supplying 700 tonnes of mortar in five of its silo mixing stations to M Bliss Brickwork with coloured mortar being used for the facing blockwork and natural mortar specified for the internal blockwork.
Capable of holding up to 35 tonnes of dry mortar, the silo mixing station is delivered to site where it is plugged into water and power. As required, at the simple touch of a button, the silo produces a perfectly mixed mortar. As well as maintaining mix and colours, the system also minimises waste, helping to reduce the environmental impact of projects during construction.
CPI EuroMix produces a wide range of mortars which are available in an extensive range of standard and bespoke colours. Its mortars are accredited to BS EN ISO 9001:2000, the industry standard accreditation for quality control. Able to offer high grade mortar alongside its exact premixing silo mixing stations, CPI EuroMix ensures that projects benefit from quality mortars with high bond and compressive strength, durability and colour.
With the company’s innovative approach to creating efficient methods of material delivery, whilst minimising waste, CPI EuroMix is helping to ensure this high profile leisure development will be open to guests in the spring 2014.
