Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES), one of the UK’s largest mechanical and electrical building services businesses, has been awarded a £3m office accommodation contract to redevelop the former Keynsham Town Hall site in Bristol by Willmott Dixon.
The sustainable, low carbon new build office accommodation for 688 employees will include a library, retail spaces and car parking. The scope of the works also includes the demolition of existing office and council buildings.
The project is being designed to satisfy the requirement of a DEC ”A” energy rating and is expected to be one of only a handful buildings in the UK to achieve this energy efficiency rating at this time. The building will rely primarily on natural ventilation and will feature low energy lighting, high performance motors in HVAC equipment and take advantage of PV cells on the roofs of all buildings.
The project will utilise off-site manufacturing solutions including modular plant rooms, multi-service modules and modular electrical systems, which bring safety, programme and sustainable benefits.
Works to the mechanical and electrical services will start in August this year and will be completed by the Autumn of 2014.
The works are part of a £34m regeneration of Keynsham town centre which includes a new civic centre, council offices, shops and restaurants, improved public spaces and an innovative ‘one stop shop’ where people will be able to access local services in one place.
