The UK construction industry is currently hiring new workers at the fastest rate for more than 15 years, the latest figures indicate.
With confidence returning to the UK economy, and with a housing crisis driving the creation of new properties right across the country, tens of thousands of new jobs are becoming available for everyone from builders and site managers right through to housing industry marketers and project managers.
Indeed, according to the latest Market/CIPS report on the state of the sector, the number of jobs available in construction has increased by a staggering 43 per cent over the past year alone. This report is just one of many indicating that the situation is steadily improving for jobseekers in the UK, and not just those with skills suited to the housebuilding sector.
At the same time, research carried out by the website Totaljobs found that the UK labour market as a whole is currently growing at an annual rate of nine per cent, while the number of applications being submitted for new openings increasing by three per cent each year.
Notably, such an upturn in new opportunities is not merely consigned to London and the south-east of England. According to these newly-published statistics, the East Midlands is currently the UK's employment hotspot, having enjoyed a 17 per cent increase in new openings over the past 12 months, while the situation is equally rosy in Yorkshire, where new jobs are up by 16 per cent when compared to last year.
