COMBISAFE continues to expand in the Middle East by securing its first project in Azerbaijan.
During construction of the £200 million SOCAR Tower – the tallest building in the Caucasus region – COMBISAFE supplied a comprehensive range of safety solutions to protect workers at height and those below from falling objects and debris.
Designed by Heerim Architects and built by Tekfen Construction, the iconic towered project will rise from an elongated, canopy-like podium. Covering an area of 12,000m2 and rising to 200 metres, the 42 storey steel frame and reinforced concrete building will offer state-of-the-art facilities as the new headquarters for State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) – one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies.
When building the tower, safety was paramount for the site operatives working at height as well as the many trades working below. With proven performance on a number of challenging high-rise sites worldwide, COMBISAFE was again appointed to provide a complete protection solution. The leaders in temporary collective protection at height combined the Multi Mesh Barrier, Safety Net Fan Maxi and Vertical Safety Net System.
Weighing just 16kg, the COMBISAFE Multi Mesh Barrier (MMB) combines a Post and Barrier in a single component, for simplicity, ease, and speed of installation. The large mesh size offers 185mm of containment density, whilst also allowing operatives to work on the building’s framework and exterior without removing the barrier.
Developed to extend the catching width of the standard Safety Net Fan, the Safety Net Fan Maxi is 4.6m wide and comes with 60mm x 60mm mesh and 20mm x 20mm debris net as standard –proven to arrest falls of up to 100kg from a height of 6 metres. The net’s elasticity, combined with a slight deformation of the frame, ensures that the impact of any fall is absorbed to considerably decrease the risk of injury or objects falling to street level.
COMBISAFE also provided 30 metres of its Vertical Safety Net System, which provides floor to floor enclosure and optimum levels of safety for the most exposed working areas at multi-storey construction sites.
Set for completion in 2014, the stunning SOCAR Tower provides a perfect example of how COMBISAFE’s innovative and carefully designed solutions can deliver the highest standards of health and safety – befitting of a landmark construction site for one of the world’s largest companies.
