Combining flair and function in accessible bathroom design

The introduction of the new PLUS track system from Pressalit Care brings an added touch of comfort alongside high levels of functionality in accessible bathroom design.

Designed to ensure greater independence for users, Pressalit Care’s PLUS track system gives the freedom to fit bathrooms both large and small in a contemporary style that not only provides the flexibility required for disabled guests, but brings long term investment value.

Ease of use, comfort, flair and usability all come as part of the package with the ergonomically designed PLUS system.

With soft, rounded edges and a choice of bold and dynamic colours, the PLUS system features a wall-mounted track which allows easy movement of the different bathroom elements. The horizontal track makes it possible to move products along the wall, making space for wheelchair access for example, while the vertical track enables quick and easy height adjustment with a simple yet secure lever lock.

Design and function go hand in hand in the PLUS system. Several elements can be fitted safely onto the track such as basin, shower seat, toilet and arm supports. Combined with other elements in the system, including grab rails, toilet seats, back rests, curtain rails and folding seats, the result is an attractive bathroom that can be used and enjoyed by disabled and able-bodied guests alike.

Strong colours such as Lime Green, Orange and Purple, sit alongside others in the range like white, anthracite, red and dark blue – enabling an individual style to be brought to the bathroom’s design.

With hygiene all important, soft edges make the PLUS system easy to clean; the shallow ergonomic design of the wash basin gives seated users the leg-room they need, while the shaped support arms provide a sense of security for seated users while also facilitating the task of transferring to and from wheelchairs.

Andrew Lowndes, UK and Ireland sales manager for Pressalit Care says, “Accessible bathrooms no longer have to be cold, bland and merely functional affairs. By incorporating facilities for disabled guests into a bathroom design from the onset, accessible bathrooms can be made functional, flexible as well as attractive.”

Hotel facilities are required to meet Part M regulations that state one in twenty rooms must provide bathroom facilities which are accessible to wheelchair guests.

The flexibility of the Pressalit Care PLUS system means that individual elements of the bathroom, such as hinged arm supports or shower seats, can be easily removed when not in use, a feature particularly beneficial for hotels.

“Hoteliers can provide fully equipped bathrooms for limited mobility guests, which can be used equally for able bodied guests at other times. The new Pressalit Care PLUS system offers a unique combination of design and function.”

Part M regulations require hotels to provide facilities that allow all guests to wash or bath independently or with assistance from others. This means ensuring the bathroom layout can accommodate wheelchair access, with elements including disabled toilet, drop down arms, adjustable shower seats and grab rails.

The PLUS system is the result of over 35 years’ experience that Pressalit Care has gained as a leader in the design and manufacture of acclaimed bathroom solutions throughout Europe for people with disabilities.
