Architects Stride Treglown, the only practice in the UK to win two national BREEAM awards in 2010, has announced a significant increase in calls to its dedicated BREEAM assessment team over recent months.
With the Building Research Establishment (BRE) due to tighten their criteria for BREEAM schemes in the next month, the Stride Treglown assessment team has been working hard to help clients get ahead of the new, more onerous criteria by ensuring new assessments are registered with the BRE as soon as possible, before the regulations change. This is in addition to Strides’ ongoing client support, as well as acting as sustainable experts for any new projects at design stage.
The expert team includes a qualified BRE accredited professional (BREEAM AP), a ‘BREEAM Communities’ Assessor and BREEAM In-Use Auditors, who continue to be called upon for their specialist skills across all sectors of the building industry.
Recent project highlights for the BREEAM team include:
- Treglown Court, the company’s new Cardiff office, was the first building to achieve BREEAM’s ‘Outstanding’ rating at design stage and has gone on to win ‘Best Office Architecture’ at the UK Property Awards as well as ‘Environmental Project of the Year’ at the Green IT Awards.
- Stride Treglown secured the design work for R block, the University for the West of England’s new Faculty of Environment & Technology.
- A number of cutting edge, eco-friendly stores have also been designed for Sainsbury’s, including Llanthony Wharf which added to Strides’ silverware by winning ‘Best New Building’ at the Gloucester Civic Awards.
Dominic Wells, Director of Stride Treglown Management Ltd, said, “The demand for cost-effective sustainable buildings is growing fast and we are delighted to be supporting major businesses achieve efficient buildings through our pro-active input at design stage through to building operation.
“Reducing environmental impact makes clear business sense and the challenging economic climate focuses attention on the need to manage construction and operating costs, improve productivity and protect the bottom line. Out expert BREEAM team is at the forefront of the sustainable building movement and their experience, knowledge and qualifications continue to generate considerable interest. We look forward to 2011 being our busiest year since BREEAM came in.”
